Small 4° (197 x 152mm). Title in red and black, engraved frontispiece by B.Audran after A.Coypel, 29 engraved plates by Audran after Philippe d'Orléans within borders by Fokke, one fleuron on the title, 8 vignettes by Eisen and 8 culs-de lampe by Cochin, all engraved by Fokke, the plate of the 'petits pieds' after page 162 is before letters. Text encadrée throughout. (Occasional foxing in margins of plates; the headline on p.162 must at one time have adhered to the facing plate, causing the loss of 3 letters). Contemporary red morocco gilt in the style of Derome, wide gilt dentelle border built up of scrolling foliate, floral and scallop tools, spine with raised bands, gilt in six compartments, of which five are filled with floral tools, one with black morocco lettering piece, g.e., marbled endpapers, in velvet-lined morocco-backed box. Provenance: Newton Hall, Cambridge (bookplate).
The plates are taken from the 1718, but are here re-issued with the fine borders by Fokke. Cohen-de Ricci 653; Sander 1226.
