8° (272 x 175mm). 3pp. of engraved dedication, 20pp. engraved 'Table et Explication des Planches' at back, 139 plates (only, of 141, lacking the title and plate 5; plates 17,18,24,34,39,51,57,60,72 loosely inserted, supplied from another copy). Red morocco gilt, uncut, gilt decorated turn-ins, green watered-silk liners and doublures, by Riviere & Son. Provenance: pencilled note 'This copy came from the Library of the Duchesse de Berri.'
A good selection of plates, after Boucher, Eisen and others, from this 'Superbe ouvrage... un des plus galamment illustrés de tout le siècle.' (Cohen-de Ricci). Together with another similar incomplete collection of plates from the same work, bound in two red morocco albums by Canapé, including a number of avant lettre examples. Cf.
