Three volumes, 8° (232 x 150mm). Half-titles in vol.I & II, errata bound after title in vol.I, engraved portrait of Mirabeau by Voysard after Borel and 14 plates by Eluin, Delignon and Dupréel after Borel and Marillier, ALL IN TWO STATES, printed in coloured and before letters, extra suite of the portrait and 13 (of 14) plates after letters from the ordinary edition, and one large paper plate after letters. (Some leaves slightly spotted.) Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers with gilt border of fillets and small floral tools, spines lavishly gilt with scroll and small tools with small green morocco circular onlays, pale green moiré silk liners and doublures, inner gilt dentelles. Provenance: Ralph Edward-Lambton (armorial bookplate).
ONE OF A VERY FEW LARGE PAPER COPIES ON VELIN with a limitation on the verso of the title of vol.III, 'Il a été tiré quelques exemplaires de cet ouvrage en papier vélin, et un très-petit nombre en grand paper vélin, avec figures avant la lettre, dont on a fait colorier queslques suites pour les amateurs qui desireront avoir doubles figures'. Cohen-de Ricci 993 (who also records an 1796 edition with the plates printed in colours). (3)
