12 volumes, 8° (187 x115mm). Half-titles, titles, foreword (1 leaf) to vol. XII, 20 engraved plates by Crouteaux, Delvaux, De Launay and others after P.-C. Marillier, engraved portrait of the author by De Launay after Borel. (Occasional light spotting, heavier in quires Aa of vol. V, O of vol. VI and E of vol. XII.) Uniform contemporary green morocco gilt, covers with triple fillet border, spines in six compartments, red morocco lettering-pieces in two, g.e. (volumes IX and XI wrongly numbered on spines, spines of last four volumes very slightly faded). Provenance: unidentified monogrammed green morocco booklabel.

A HANDSOME SET of this attractive edition, with "très jolies figures par Marillier" (Cohen-de Ricci). The works included are often tranlsated by Tressan, rather than composed by him. They comprise: a translation of the writings of Amadis de Gaula (vols. I-III), a translation of Ariosto's Orlando Furioso (vols. IV-VI), extracts from chivalric romances, including Tristan de Léonois (translated from the Latin of Rusticiano), Artus de Brétagne, Flores et Blanche-Fleur, La Fleur des Batailles, Guerin de Montglave, Zélie, Le petit Jehan de Saintré and many others (vols.
