8° (212 x 130mm). 6 engraved plates by Guyot after Watteau, PRINTED IN COLOURS AND FINISHED BY HAND. (All skillfully repaired around engraved captions, a little light spotting, especially to plate 5, number of plate 5 just trimmed.) Original front wrapper (sections at top and bottom skillfully supplied in manuscript), wrapper and plates tipped into a red morocco gilt album, spine in six compartments with floral tools, g.e. by Canapé. Provenance: Edouard Rahir (bookplate).
A rare set of prints: the Montgermont catalogue of 1913, no. 184, states that only four or five copies are known. Publication was intended to be continued every two months, but only the the project was never completed. The Cabinet des Estampes has one plate printed before letters of 'La Marchande de Tisane', which is not part of the published set, but has been reproduced in modern editions of the engravings. The six plates in the present series comprise: 'Le Marchand d'Orvietan', 'La Marchande d'Oranges', 'Marchande de Modes', 'Jeune Elégant Sepromenant [sic] aux Palais Royal', 'La Mde. d'Huitres' and 'La Mde. de Bouquets'. Colas 3057; Cohen-de Ricci 1065-6 ("six planches ravissantes").
