(12 1/4 x 8 1/4 in.), contemporary half blind roll-tooled pigskin over reverse-bevelled wooden boards, spine in four compartments with blind-stamped floral tools, old ink lettering in upper compartment, remains of two fore-edge clasps, edges plain, an Augsburg binding (Kyriss shop 79); covers slightly wormed, leather of upper half of spine split, inner joint split, first and last quires coming unsewn, traces of old tape repair to gutters of first and last leaves of each, last leaf (Kk8) creased, torn at gutter and with old tape repair, wormholes or tracks affecting about 90 leaves, four or five leaves with short marginal tears, a few leaves discolored or lightly foxed, some mostly marginal dampstaining.
356 leaves with signatures. Types: Prüss 15:210, 7:156 (title), 13:146 (title and headlines), 8:80 (text). Double column. 57 lines and headlines, marginal letters keyed to indices. Title printed in red and black within woodcut border variously attributed to Urs Graf, Hans Wechtelin, or Hans Baldung Grien, title to second part (K1r) with four small cuts from the text, full-page skeleton cut on K1v, small cut of woman with physician holding urine flask on GG1r, 1066 text woodcuts (including repeats), six- and eight-line woodcut initials, three-line type or metalcut Lombard initials.
Sixth edition, fourth Strassburg edition, a page for page reprint of the three Johann Prüss editions, Beck having taken over the Prüss printing establishment. A few of the woodcuts are new to this edition, but most are reprints or very exact copies (a few reversed) of the Prüss blocks; the woodcut initials differ however from the Prüss cuts.
