Large folio, 593 x 472mm. (23 3/8 x 18 5/8in.), contemporary dark green half morocco gilt, t.e.g., corners worn, joints slightly rubbed, small offset mark from an old slip of paper to the blank area of plate 6, very occasional and mostly minor foxing, mostly to text.

JOSEPH WOLF'S COPY (see Provenance, below). FIRST EDITION, 36 hand-colored lithographed plates after Joseph Wolf by Joseph Smit, colored by J.D. White, one uncolored plate of generic characters, on india paper mounted, by Smit.

Widely regarded as Elliot's masterpiece, the work appeared soon after
