448 hand-colored lithographed plates, 68 by Edward Lear, the rest by Elizabeth Gould after sketches and designs by Gould, printed by C. Hullmandel.

Gould's first multi-volume ornithological work; the second of the folio series. He visited most of the important private and institutional collections of specimens in Europe in order to provide drawings. (5)
