Lot Essay

A fine presentation album documenting the engineering works from well-sinking in January 1897 through the erection of the girder spans, to the opening ceremony and the first train travelling across the bridge. Also including formal group portraits. The bridge was opened on 25 January 1899 by the Hon. Sir Antony P. MacDonnell K.G.S.I. The last two photographs show the completed bridge with its enormous span.
