lithographs, ten with handcolouring and pochoir colouring, 1947, on thick Lana vélin teinté, title, text, index, justification and set of fifteen, signed by the artist in pencil and by the publisher in pen and blue ink and dedicated on the justification 'pour Monsieur Sahud (?), hommage amical et cordial de l'éditeur noël 1949', copy number XIV from the special edition of twenty reserved for the collaborators (the total edition was 395), the full sheets as published with deckle edges at the bottom, in good condition, loose in original paper wrappers with title on front, within original cream paper boards and slipcase with gilt title on spine, rubbing at the edges

Lot Essay

Each copy of this edition varies in the number of coloured lithographs and in the colouring itself as Léger and the editor decided to colour over the lithographs, printed in black, after the edition had been published. As handcolouring was employed as well as pochoir colouring further variations occurred in the opacity of the gouache.
According to Saphire a suite printed in black on Chine was included in this edition of twenty as well as in the edition of 100 on the same paper, but there is no mention of this on the justification.
