PREFACE: It is a hard task to print improved Latin texts, harder to give Greek ones, and hardest of all to do it in these hard times. He has now done it for almost seven years without so much as an hour of solid rest [the primary evidence for the date of Aldus's first typographic preparation]. Yet idiom, turns of phrase, even dialects, so varied in different parts of the Greek world, can be learnt here.
