FIRST EDITION of this encyclopaedic compilation of Valla's, posthumously published, and edited by his adopted son. It is Aldus's only production in this large format. Valla was professor of classical languages at Venice, specialised in Greek scientific literature, and formed a splendid library, which was acquired by Alberto Pio. According to Lowry (p. 223), Aldus agreed to print this massive work, because Valla had done much to introduce him to Venetian high society. RARE, AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. Isaac 12771; Adams V-147; Sansoviniana 50; Laurenziana 50; R 30:8
