A TWELVE-SYMBOL YELLOW SILK DRAGON ROBE, JI FU
Late 18th/19th Century
Finely embroidered in couched gold thread with eight dragons, three on the front, three on the back and one on each shoulder, four clutching a flaming pearl, the twelve symbols-satin stiched in fine detail: with the sun and moon symbols on the shoulders, the constellation and mountain in front and back above each central dragon, the fu symbol, axe head, pair of small dragons and the golden pheasant around the middle of the robe; and the aquatic plants, sacrificial vessels, flames and grain symbol above the waves, all amidst satin-stitched blue clouds interspersed with red bats and shou characters above the shaded lishui band, probably made up from unsewn yardage
