A shadow box that traces the career of "Pappy", containing his rank insignia from induction into the service up through the ranks to Lt. Colonel. Also included are his Navy Cross, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart, Pacific Theater Campaign Medal, and World War II Victory Medal, and Black Sheep Squadron insignia. Also of interest is a silver medal of the City of New York, whcih was given to Boyington by Pacific Theater Commander Chester Nimitz. The two apparently were seated together at a Banquet honoring Nimitz. He gave "Pappy" the medal and signed ("C.W. Nimitz") to Colonel Boyington's invitation, also adding his personal telephone number. Finally, the lot includes a U.S. Flag. Wonderful presentation in a fine quality finished wood case with glass front over blue felt. Overall size is 20 x 26 in.
