Typed letter signed ("Walt Disney") to Lloyd Mason Smith of the Palm Springs Desert Museum, Burbank, CA, February 2, 1953, on an illustrated letter sheet of "Walt Disney's Peter Pan". 1 page, quarto, some glue residue on the vers, fine.
An excellent letter on the release of The Living Desert. The Director of the Palm Springs Museum gets a little ahead of himself in asking Disney to release this important feauture as a benefit for the museum. But Disney understandably has other plans and concerns. "I have your suggestions regarding the possibility of premiering The Living Desert, in Palm Springs as a benefit for the Museum. For two reasons this is not possible. First, our releasing commitments are such that we are compelled to work with a distributor as to where a picture will first be shown, and at the moment it is not defintiely set who will distribute the picture. Further the picture will not be finished until summer and will most likely be shown in New York with a general release in August. In the pictures present state, I would hesitate to show it to anyone other than close friends as it is without music and sound effects. I feel it would be wrong to show it in this unfinished stage as many people would probably wonder why there wasn't any music. However, I will be happy to show it to you when it is all finished so that puts it over until next season, possibly early fall.
