Lot Essay

Approximately half the portraits contain a clock showing the time the photograph was taken and a printed stand with the date and place. The majority of these refer to Helme Lodge while others refer to Field Foot or Plymouth.

The tiny ambrotype portraits were most likely intended to be mounted in jewellery. They appear to be copies made from larger photographs.
