Lot Essay

This design was commissioned from Josef Hoffmann at the behest of the Österreichischen Museum für Kunst und Industrie in 1912. Vessels with similar form and decoration were executed in more than thirty different colour variations. It is not known whether Hoffmann supplied the guidelines for the colouration with his designs, or if this choice was left to the manufacturers.
