When George Harriman became deputy managing director of Morris in 1950 he instigated discussions between Austin and Morris in an effort to avoid nationalization. These talks culminated in the formation, in 1952, of the British Motor Corporation, which was the fourth largest motor firm in the world. The transverse-front-engined, front-wheel drive Mini, designed by Alec Issigionis, was the first of the technically advanced new breed of BMC cars in 1959. In 1963 the Austin version of the already announced Morris 1100 was launched and was followed in 1964 by the announcement of the even larger 1800.
This example has had one owner from new and the original sales invoice to Mr Ash was dated 22nd June, 1967. It is described as an original example in all respects and throughout its life was kept garaged. The recorded mileage at the last MoT which expires a few days before the auction is 47,841 miles.
