c 1935 BMW 319 TWO SEAT SPORTS CABRIOLET
Registration No. EMX 252 (see text)
Chassis No. see text
Engine No. see text
Unpainted and without upholstery fitted
Engine: Six cylinder, overhead valve, 1,911cc; Gearbox: four speed manual; Brakes: four wheel drum; Suspension: single transverse leaf spring, front, semi-elliptic rear. Right hand drive.
In February 1933 BMW introduced a new model, the 303 which was to set a pattern for BMW for the rest of the 1930s. It was powered by a small six cylinder engine of 1.2 litre capacity which had been designed by Fritz Fielder who had recently joined from Horch. This engine was later developed and grew in capacity up to 2 litres and made particularly famous on the the 327 and 328 models and went on to be used on the post -war Bristol, Frazer-Nash and AC cars. The chassis was of a tubular frame type.
This attractive cabriolet is very much a restoration project awaiting completion, however substantial work and money has already been spent to date including: body off check of the chassis, rebuilding axles, hubs, brakes, springs and shock absorbers, the engine rebuilt, re-bored, new pistons, crankshaft, main bearings and big ends refurbished. The gearbox was stripped and rebuilt and a lot of the panelwork has been re-metalled. The vehicle is probably about 90 complete and is strictly being sold as seen. Parts not attached include most of the instruments, triple solex carburettors, some trim items and other sundry small items. This example is to right hand drive specification and although the registration plate EMX 252 is available there are no documents with this lot.
