JAGUAR'S STYLISH UNITARY CONSTRUCTION FIRST APPEARED IN 1956 ON THE 2.4 LITRE TOURING CARS, AND IN AN ATTEMPT TO TAKE A LARGER SHARE OF THE HIGH PERFORMANCE CAR MARKET THE 3.4 LITRE ENGINE WAS INTRODUCED IN 1957 AND THE 3.8 LITRE ENGINE IN 1959.
IN 1967, THE MARK II WAS REVISED WITH A VIEW TO KEEPING IT IN PRODUCTION A LITTLE LONGER. THE 3.8 LITRE MODEL WAS DROPPED, AND THE NEW MODEL BECAME KNOWN AS EITHER THE 240 OR 340 ACCOUNTING FOR SALES OF 4,210 AND 2,630 CARS RESPECTIVELY. THE MARK II BODY WAS RETAINED, BUT THE APPEARANCE WAS MODIFIED WITH THINNER BUMPERS AND HORN GRILLS INSTEAD OF THE FOG-DRIVING LAMPS. THESE CARS WERE THE LAST COMPACT JAGUAR SALOONS AND THE LAST WITH WILLIAM LYONS' CLASSIC 1950'S STYLING.
TRT 34F WAS PURCHASED NEW BY MR CONNOR IN MAY 1968 AND CONSEQUENTLY HAS HAD JUST ONE OWNER FROM NEW AND HAS COVERED JUST OVER 50,000 MILES. THIS FINE JAGUAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED AND OVERHAULED REGARDLESS OF COST THROUGHOUT HIS OWNERSHIP. THE MAINTENANCE WAS CARRIED OUT BY THE ORIGINAL JAGUAR DEALERSHIP (MANN EGERTON) AND THEY CONTINUED TO SERVICE IT AFTER THEY RELINQUISHED THE MAIN AGENCY. THE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICE HISTORY WITH RECEIPTS IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. RECENT WORK HAS INCLUDED WELDING IN NEW METAL TO THE WINGS, SILLS, FLOORS AND DOORS IN 1985, A CLUTCH OVERHAUL IN 1986 (45,000 MILES), FRONT BRAKE DISCS AND PISTONS IN 1991, A BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER IN 1993 AND REAR SILENCER IN 1994. THE VEHICLE IS DESCRIBED AS IN GOOD ORDER THROUGHOUT IN KEEPING WITH ITS AGE AND ITS CAREFUL SINGLE OWNERSHIP.
