1901 ROYAL ENFIELD QUADRICYCLE

REGISTRATION NO. RD 4480
ENGINE NO. 16408

ENGINE: DE-DION BOUTON SINGLE VERTICAL CYLINDER, 2¾ HP.

THE ENFIELD CYCLE CO. LTD. OF REDDITCH, WORCS., PRODUCED VEHICLES UNTIL 1906. INITIALLY THEY WERE 4 WHEELERS KNOWN AS QUADRICYCLES WITH SINGLE CYLINDER DE-DION BOUTON ENGINES, HANDLEBAR STEERING AND A FRONT SEAT BETWEEN THE FRONT WHEELS, DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER !

THIS EARLY AIR COOLED QUADRICYCLE APPEARS TO BE IN LARGELY ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT HAS REMAINED IN THE SAME OWNERSHIP SINCE 1966, AND HAS HAD JUST SIX OWNERS SINCE 1933. THE PAINTWORK IS PRESENTABLE BUT OLD AND THE NICKLE BRIGHTWORK REALLY NEEDS RE-PLATING. THE ENGINE HAS NOT RUN FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND WILL REQUIRE CAREFUL RE-COMMISSIONING PRIOR TO USE. IT HAS A COMPLETE SET OF PERIOD LIGHTS AND AN UMBERELLA BASKET WHICH PRESUMABLY PROVES VERY USEFUL IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER !
IT COMES COMPLETE WITH LOG BOOKS DATING BACK TO 1933 AND CARRIES V.C.C. DATING CERTIFICATE NUMBER 1058.
THIS QUADRICYCLE IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE FAMOUS R.A.C. LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN AND SURELY MUST BE ONE OF THE MOST INEXPENSIVE WAYS TO GAIN AN ENTRY TO THIS PRESTIGEOUS EVENT.
