Lot Essay

Cf. J.G. Phillips, op. cit., fig.51, where he illustrates the Marieberg ceramic prototype for this silver-shaped porcelain model, and a Chinese equivalent which is very close to the present lot in shape. The Swedish jardiniére was made between 1758-1766, at the factory near Stockholm. It is one of a number of Marieberg faience shapes which reappear closely imitated in Chinese export porcelain, clearly intended initially for the Swedish market; J.G. Phillips, ibid., p.157
