The arms are those of Middleton or Myddelton. Cf. D.S. Howard, op. cit., p.975. This distinguished family of Royalists acquired Chirk Castle in 1660, but the title expired in 1718. A service of this style was also made for a family of this name in South Carolina: see Howard, ibid, Ch.3
