The European Osprey has declined for over a century due to persecution, pollution, and loss of nest sites and it disappeared altogether from the United Kingdom in the nineteenth century. There are now 72 pairs in the United Kingdom due to protective measures, however it does seem from regular observation in Sussex that migratory numbers are on the increase
