Lot Essay

The 'yellow birdwing', T. oblongomaculatus, is the only true Troides found in New Guinea. This large and handsome insect is commonly reared for sale by various 'butterfly farms' and other trading agencies. The primrose-yellow P. euchenor often flies along rivers and streams, where its sailing flight and large size make it a spectacular sight.
