Each with flaming torch backplate with swagged drapery and gadrooned and reeded base, the central anthemion issuing a scrolling foliate-cast putto holding scrolling serpents who support leaf-cast nozzles

Lot Essay

These wall-lights are loosely inspired by those delivered by Thomire-Duterme et Cie for the château Fontainebleau in 1809 (illustrated in J. P. Samoyault, Pendules et Bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p. 140, fig. 112)
