BOLSTRA, Melchior (1704-1779). 'T Hooge Heemraed-Schap van Rhynland. [Leiden]: 1746.

2° (540 x 360mm). Hand-coloured engraved wall-map of the Dutch Rijnland on 12 double-page sheets, with a separate title sheet of 3 strips, each sheet 450 x 550mm, the map showing the principal towns, villages and settlements, and differentiating the various land ownerships, showing the changes from 1687 to 1746. (Outer margins lightly stained and soiled, not affecting engraved area, some slight discolouration along centre-folds.) Bound in contemporary half vellum (outer edges of covers worn and soiled).

An interesting wall-map of the Dutch Rijnland; Melchior Bolstra carried out the survey in 1739 and 1740, updating earlier surveys of 1647 and 1687. Included in the volume is Bolstra's separately published single sheet map afbeeldinge van Rhynlands Waterstaat, circa 1741, and a hand-coloured engraved plate explaining the process of water hydraulics from the polders to the North Sea.
