Hand-coloured woodcut portrait of Ptolemy on verso of title, 54 DOUBLE-PAGE WOODCUT MAPS WITH FINE CONTEMPORARY HAND-COLOURING, each with descriptive letterpress text on verso, most with the text within decorative hand-coloured woodcut borders, 8 hand-coloured woodcut illustrations, 2 full-page, hand-coloured woodcut printer's device and letterpress colophon on final verso of final map. (Neat repair to lower blank margin of map 2, small tear to lower blank margin of map 9, maps 29 and 33 with small tear to folds just touching decorative borders, map 42 shaved with loss to outer decorative borders, map 45 with tear at fold affecting image area.) contemporary blind-stamped pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, metal clasps, spine stained russet brown with early-19th-century blue glazed-paper label and discreet gilt tooling. Provenance: 'Bibliothecae iure inscriptii 30 Octob: 1656' (inscription).
