Oblong 2° (277 x 425mm). Text in French and Latin. 2 engraved section titles, one folding Carte Generale serving as a sheet index, 29 coastal charts. (Small marginal tear to one map and one section title, the final map creased, some light marginal soiling.) Old calf gilt (extrmities rubbed, spine repaired). Provenance: marquis Augustin Lavcaris de Vintimille (ownership inscription).
RARE EDITION. Pastoreau (p.448) comments: "Nous n'avons pae retrouvé d'exemplaire de cet atlas avec l'adresse de Tavernier et la date de 1634, mais sa réédition par cet éditeur en 1636 atteste son existence". Another copy, from the library of Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun, appeared at auction in 1988. The first part charts the atlantic coastline from Calais to San Sebastian; the second the Mediterranean coast between the spanish border and Villefranche. This edition is not in Pastoreau, but cf. Tassin V Ac (note); not in Nordenskiöld Collection 2, but cf. 292 (also 1634); not in National Maritime Museum Catalogue 3 or Phillips, Atlases.
