(Outer margins of the first two plates slightly cut-down, one of the folding plates somewhat creased.) Contemporary russia tooled in gilt and blind, gilt arms of Magdelene College Oxford on covers (re-backed, modern endpapers). Provenance: Magdelene College (binding).

FIRST EDITION. "Gell visited Ithaca in the spring of 1806 accompanied by Dodwell and Henry Raikes. He was the first to study seriously the topography of Ithaca for its Homeric associations" Blackmer 661.
