Hohe and others after Krazeisen (comprising: 21 portraits on india paper, mounted, and 7 views, one on india paper, mounted), lithographic map of Athens on blue paper. (Some light spotting, marginal on most of the plates but occasionally affecting the image area.) Contemporary half roan (extremities rubbed).
FIRST EDITION of a work originally issued in 7 parts bound in blue wrappers, titled on each upper cover. The lower cover to part VII with the map of Athens is bound at the back of this copy. The portraits are of the leaders of the Greek War of Independence and are amongst the best known images from this period: Krazeisen accompanied von Heideck and the Bavarian philhellenes to Greece in 1826 and rerurned to Munich in 1828. The originals of much of his work are in the National gallery in Athens, and a facsimile of a selection of the plates was issued in 1980.
