Half-titles. 15 plates on india paper, mounted (comprising: 10 lithographs by Louis Haghe after Antonio Schranz, 4 wood-engravings and one folding letterpress inscription); one large folding lithographed map of Crete, 2 wood-engraved title vignettes on india paper, mounted, 49 wood-engraved illustrations only (of 50, lacking the headpiece to vol.II p.266), 48 of them on india paper, mounted. Later olive morocco, covers panelled in gilt, spines in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in two, the others with massed small tools, t.e.g., by Cecil & Larkins for E.W.Stibbs (very light scuffing to extremities).

FIRST EDITION, large-paper copy. Lowndes notes that the ordinary format edition was published at 2 guineas, and the imperial 8° edition at 4 guineas. Cf. Blackmer 263 (ordinary format). (2)
