Stipple-engraved portrait of the author by W.Holl after S.Shelley (light old dampstaining), 27 plates, plans or maps (including 22 aquatints [1 folding, 1 double page, 12 hand-coloured, 3 tinted, 12 with overslips], 2 engravings, engraved map, 2 engraved plans), 32 illustrations (20 wood-engravings, 1 hand-coloured, 11 aquatints, 2 with overslips, 1 engraving). (Light old dampstaining to the portrait and one of the engraved plates, small tears to the folding plate with unobtrusive adhesive tape mark on verso.) Contemporary boards, uncut (re-backed and cornered in roan, somewhat rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: the late Miss Sybella Jane Bailey, Cavick House, Wymondham, Norfolk.
