For another example of a famille verte 'Monteith' bowl see: Howard and Ayers. 1 op cit. pp. 116-117, where the authors remark; "As we learn from the contemporary Oxford historian Anthony a Wood, the Monteith, a bowl with nothched rim for chilling wineglasses which could thus be suspended in water, made its appearance in English silver in the year 1683 and was named after a somewhat eccentric Scot, the hem of whose cloak was notched in the same way".
