Ganea, the Lord of Obstacles and Success, obviously had large circles of worshippers in maritime Southeast Asia during the Hindu-Buddhist period. He was constantly venerated in Hindu shrines in association with iva. He enjoyed also an independent worship of his own among the Hindus and the Buddhists as the Remover of Obstacles and Bestower of Success in all enterprises. This image under review shows the current iconic form of Ganea as known in maritime Southeast Asia during the Central Javanese period (see With 1920: pl. 100; Bernet Kempers 1959: pl. 39; Borobudur 1971: cat. 6).
