Tsar Nicholas II offered similar watches as an award for merit. After the revolution of 1917, this watch became property of the Soviet government. This watch was given to Yuri Vlasow in 1960, by the secretary of defense, Marshall Malinovski. That year Yuri Vlasow won first prize during the Olympics in Rome; as a heavyweight he was able to lift 200 kilograms. During the seven following years Yuri Vlasow held the title of 'world's strongest man'.
