A STRASBOURG FAIENCE 'AU CHINOIS' OVAL PIERCED DISH, painted with a chinaman dressed in beetred tunic with blue sleeves and trousers, standing on grassy mound playing jeu de paume, surrounded by thick-leaved plants and a flowering branch issuing from rocky outcrop, insects scattered allover, within brown-lined medallion, the raised pierced border with beet-red scrolls in relief and small flowers, the shaped edge with brown lining (small chips to edge), marked H with a dot and 860 for Joseph Hannong, ca. 1775
