A HAND-WOVEN LINEN TORAH BINDER, embroidered with beige, brown, green, blue and yellow silk thread, done in stem-, chain-, button-hole- and flannel-stitch, made of four pieces joined together with an openwork button-hole stitch, finished all-around with a blanket-stitch, decorated with a bird on a branch, a lion passant, a rabbit, a crowned double-headed eagle, a ram, titled in Hebrew mazzal taleh, the Zodiac sign for the birthmonth Nissan, a very finely worked wedding canopy with flower garlands, inscribed in Hebrew u-le-chuppah Torah Tsivvah lanu Moshe Kehilat Ya'akov, another bird, three zoomorphic and two floral lameds, the letters filled in with a variety of human faces and floral motifs, two tiny holes, at a few places some loosening of the seam, excellent condition, a beautiful binder, probably Germany, 1747
