Details
Liturgy. Sefer Minhagim (in Yiddish).
Amserdam, Solomon ben Josef Proops, 1707, 18 x 12.5 cm.
Very rare. 61 leaves. Title within architectural frame and with decorative border. Contains no less than 43 attractive woodcuts, mainly in the well-known minhagim fashion, with a remarkably strong imprint. Browned and stained, tightly trimmed, not affecting text. Rubbed quarter-leather, front board broken. Despite the flaws a nice copy.
M. Steinschneider, Jüdisch-Deutsche Literatur, No. 149.
bound with:
Liturgy. Seder Birkat ha-Mazon (printed in Amsterdam by Solomon Proops, including a Haggadah, songs for the sabbath, Purim, Chanukkah, etc., all with Yiddish translations).
Very rare. 70 leaves (2-71). This copy lacks the titlepage. From the editions mentioned by Turniansky this cannot be No. 21 (1701) which is not illustrated or No. 22 (which has 72 leaves). This is most probably No. 39 (1722), printed by Proops (according to StCB 2648) and illustrated (according to Turniansky and Steinschneider). With woodcut illustrations in the minhagim style and historiated initials. Browned, stained, several tears with loss of text and with other minor defects. Neat copy.
Ch. Turniansky, 'The "Bentsherel" and the Sabbath-Hymns in Yiddish', in: Alei Sefer 10 (1982) p. 51-92.
