There are several different versions of this subject, varying in colour and size;

Little is known about Waagen except that he was active in the mid 19th Century, working primarily in France and that his works are rare and of exceptional quality. Martin, the founder, could be linked with Emile Martin, the entrepreneur who was Barye's partner and founder between 1839-1857
