A COLLECTION OF WORKS BY DOUWE VAN DER ZWEEP (1890-1975) Douwe van der Zweep was trained in the technique of lithograph-making as a young boy. He soon developed an interest in other fields in the fine arts. From 1905 till 1910 he took lessons in the evening at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Utrecht. Around 1916 he became more involved in the circle of modernistic artists in Utrecht. Among them Gerrit Rietveld with whom Van der Zweep had a long lasting close friendship. Although van der Zweep was influenced by the principles of De Stijl, he rarely worked completely abstract. In the later work Van der Zweep becomes more free in his expression. cf. Literature: Jan Juffermans, Met stille trom Beeldende Kunst en Utrecht sinds 1900, Utrecht/Antwerpen 1976
