We are grateful to Dr. Jan Kelch for having confirmed the attribution on the basis of a transparency. In his letter dated 29 July 1991, he states that the present lot is to be dated to the late 1630's and is to be compared with the picture from the Clercq collection formerly in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, destroyed by fire in 1968 (see All the Paintings from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, 1976, p. 58, no.A1982, with ill.
