Emanuel Streckeisen (1743-1826), who worked in Holland as a young man and is later recorded in Amsterdam in 1799, after he had acquired Ramsteiner Hof, Basle, where he is known to have entertained many eminent visitors of the city

The sitters might be identified as Mr Arnaud Beaumont (1605-1678) and his first wife Johanna Beaumont, née Lindeman, on the basis of comparison with the portrait of Arnaud Beaumont, aged 56, and dated 1661, in the collection of Graaf van Zuylen van Nyevelt, Wassenaar
