Comparable with views along the Rhine that Hollar made (sometimes preliminary for prints) between 1631 and 1636, most recently published, R. Melville, H. Reber, N. Suhr, Wenzel Hollar, 1607-1677, Reisebilder vom Rhein, Städte und Burgen am Mittelrhein in Zeichnungen und Radierungen, Landesmuseum, Mainz, 1986-7.
This drawing is comparable in technique and treatment of the foliage with watercolour views of Rüdesheim, National Gallery, Prague, (op.cit., no. 64, illustrated p. 109) and Eltville, formerly in the Springell collection, Sotheby's, London, 30 June 1986, lot 7 (op.cit., fig. 24, illustrated p. 111).
