In 1932 Van der Leck made a lithograph on the poem Ueber allen Gipfeln ist Ruh by Goethe. The present lot is a prelimenary watercolour for this print. The most striking differences in this study compared to the final print are the standing composition and the use of three colours. The lithograph was printed only in black and red.
