Lot Essay

This monument was built by the Empress Nur Jahan, wife of Jahangir in 1622-28 for her parents. Her father Mirza Ghiyas Beg was Persian and had come to India during Akbar's reign. He was employed under Jahangir at the Imperial Court and was given the title 'Itimad-Ud-Daulah' which means 'Pillar of the State'.
His son was Asaf Khan, whose daughter married Shah Jahan and for whom the Taj Mahal was built
