Egron Sellif Lundgren (1815-1875), a Swedish artist, worked as an illustrator in London before going to India in 1857. He served on Lord Clyde's staff during the campaigns of 1857 launched in response to the mutiny of the Bengal Army. The campaigns were successful and led to the replacement of the East India Company with the Crown. Lundgren executed a large number of drawings whilst with the army and his work often represents military engagements
