The field-marshall Bessieres (1768-1813), duke of Istria, was one of the best officers in the army of Napoleon. He even replaced Bernadotte as commander of the Northern Army.
In 1813 he died in the battle of Lutzen (cf. A. Rabel, Le Marchall Bessieres, 1903)
