inscribed 'Circus cineraceus/Montague's Harrier J.52./Burhampur. 22 January 80._/Visits India in the cold season only./Hunts over plains and fields for reptiles/insects +..mice and week or wounded/birds, its sudden way with which it can stop in/its flight and drop down on its quarry is very remarkable. Circus AEruginosus./Marsh Harrier. J.54. (adult)./Wazirgunge 23 Jany 79._/Generally spread through India and hunts over/marshes, riverbanks and wetfields for frogs, fish,/rats..This bird in above plumage (adult) does not/appear to have been killed in Europe, the figures in Yarrell/and Gould being taken from Indian specimens.
