Two volumes in one volume, 2° (398 x 312mm). Engraved general title with hand-coloured vignette, engraved title to vol.II on India paper (marginally waterstained), 36 hand-coloured engraved plates on thick paper by Reeve, Fielding, Hunt, and others after Grindlay, W. Westall, D. Roberts, C. Stanfield and others. (A few leaves with minor marginal dust-soiling.) Contemporary russia, covers blocked in gilt and blind (rebacked with calf gilt, rubbed, covers worn at extremities), g.e.

Published in six parts, Ackermann published the first two, and Smith Elder was advertised as the publisher in December 1826. The work is known in three forms, bound from parts, bound as two volumes without part titles (as this copy), and finally with one title (Abbey Travel 442); Tooley 239 ('Next to Daniell, the most attractive colour plate book on India. One of the few books in which the colourist is mentioned, viz. J.B. Hogarth').
